Kalnemi Rakshasa took birth as Kansa the son of Agrasen, the king of Mathura. He was a tyrant and harassed his subjects. Lord Vishnu took birth as Devaki's eighth son, Krishna and killed Kansa. Krishna and Balrama went to sage Sandipan for their education. Sage Sandipan asked for return of his son as Guru Dakshina after completion of their education. Their quest led them to the bottom of an ocean. They killed Panchjanya Rakshasa and procured the corpse of their teacher's son. They went to the Yamlok and revived the son of their teacher and reunited him with his father. Their arrival in Mathura was greeted by the attack of Jarashandh. Jarashandh attacked Mathura eighteen times but was defeated by Krishna and Balrama. Krishna ordered the creation of Dwarka to protect the Yadavs from the persistent attack. After securing the safety of Yadavs, Krishna returned to Mathura and used Muchukand to turn Kalyavan into ashes. Respecting Rukmini's desire, he abducted her and married her as per the existing traditions.
