A strenuous loop into the hills above Big Sur with amazing views along the coast as far as the eye can see, 6.4 miles.

This tough climb away from Hwy1 will reward you with breathtaking views along the Big Sur coastline as far as the eye can see. The trail starts through redwood and oak forests on the side of a creek and almost exclusively climbs up about 3.5 miles to the Tin House where the trees clear and leave you with an unrestricted view across the canyon and down to the shoreline below.

Take the alternative route back along the fire road for a change of scenery and open views south along the coast with wildflowers sprinkled throughout the hillsides. After a short walk along the shoulder of the road you will reach your car, or take another short hike down to the water to see the waves crashing on the rocks or get a close look at the tide pools.
