October’s Interview offers us an essential portrait of the Siren from Streatham, Naomi Campbell, both in the form of Alas & Piggot’s photography styled by Karl Templer, and Tony Shafrazi’s interview with the eternal supermodel. The interview is accompanied by a stunning –and decidedly kinky- fashion shoot featuring Ms Campbell in all the hot looks of the season and touting a naked tattooed man toy as an accessory.
Elsewhere between the covers, Oliver Stone interviews scriptwriting hot property Dustin Lance Black, academy award winner for his script for Gus Van Sant’s ‘Milk’, on the eve of his directorial debut. On a similarly cinematic note, Terry Gilliam chats with rising heartthrob Andrew Garfield on what it feels like to be the new Spiderman, amongst other things. For those interested in film of a more unapologetically artistic bent, Ralph Gibson interviews controversial photographer and filmmaker Larry Clark whose harsh portraits of contemporary American life have never failed to cause a stir for the last four decades.
On the fashion side of the street, Renaissance man Pharrell Williams poses the questions to Peter Dundas, the perhaps unlikely choice of designer to continue the very particular tradition of the house of Emilio Pucci. For one thing, Peter Dundas seems certain to take things in a distinctly rock ‘n roll direction.
Also of note is the fun feature casting a rather anthropological eye over the Swatch phenomenon; the hot accessory of the 1980’s that revolutionized Swiss timepieces as an affordable and collectible accessory that has since grown into a stalwart stable.
