IGDIs Summary
Individual Growth + Development Indicators (IGDIs) are used to monitor the language and literacy development of preschoolers, 3-5 years of age. Quick, efficient and repeatable; IGDIs measure the growth of young children over time toward important developmental outcomes. The IGDIs test is comprised of three key measures: Picture Naming (an assessment of expressive language development), Rhyming, and Alliteration (assessments of phonological awareness).
The administration of IGDIs is designed to be repeated multiple times to track the developmental progress of children over a period of time. IGDIs have been empirically validated in a series of studies at the University of Minnesota and are used in a wide number of settings across the United States. As of 2010, IGDIs have been used by over 10,000 schools and has been used to test over 150,000 children.
IGDIs was developed by Scott McConnell, Ph.D., of the Center for Early Education and Development (CEED) at the University of Minnesota under the Early Childhood Research Institute on Measuring Growth and Development (ECRI-MGD).
